Isaac “Aka-san” Lew
Coming from a radio career with KISS-FM,KBIG-FM and 570am KCLA, Isaac S. Lew first joined the anime and manga industry in November of 2001 by interning with Digital Manga Inc. (DMI) He was the first wave of employees for the opening of DMI’s joint venture anime retail store Omochabox. As the store was later renamed Anime Gamers, he was sought out by DMI’s president to develop and construct AkadotRetail.com. (an anime eccommerce division of Akadot.com) |
|
As Director of Operations, Sales and New Business Development, Isaac was an intricate part of DMI’s stages of growth and publicity as the company launched several divisions. Mangaacademy.com (an online how to website), Yaoi-Manga.com (an entertainment site dedicated to homosexual manga.), Digital Manga Publishing (the translation and release of manga and artbooks) and Pop Japan Travel (japan niche tourism) Nicknamed “Aka-san” by the Japanese for his noticeable hair and vibrant energy, 2005 was a noticeable year for both the company’s publishing and tour division as well as Isaac Lew as the company’s manager and spokesperson.
Through Pop Japan Travel, Isaac Lew keep a strong relationship with the number one Japan travel agency HIS Travel. Together they have achieved over 12 successful tours in 3 years. The groups would range from 25-30 people with an age range of 23-27 years old. Primarily lead in Japan by “Aka-san” these anime theme tours would travel as far as Osaka to Hokkaido and feature “an all access pass” to famous animation studios such as Madhouse, Production IG and Gonzo Studios. Ironically, only hours after arriving in Japan for the first time, the first Japanese person Isaac would meet was Range Murata. An acclaimed character designer than would later develop a friendship with Isaac. In DMP, Isaac is credited with bringing in Range Murata’s “Robot” manga series, designing scratch ‘n sniff, glow n the dark covers and limited edition designs for several other books. Along with Masami O’ Donnell of Be-beautiful publishing, Isaac Lew was quoted as being one of the pioneers of “mainstream Yaoi publishing”. In DMP’s sponsored “Robot” summer convention tour of 2005, Isaac would start a strong relationship with Murata-san and Wani Publishing appearing in their Japanese publications over time. Within Akadot.com Isaac has interviewed musical artists Kristen Sa, Polysics, Nami Tamaki and T.M. Revolution. He has also appeared on both Japanese and American media outlets. (TBS TV, Nippon TV, Sakura TV,Asahi Shimbun, Newtype USA, Anime Insider, GATV.tv. ) In early 2007, Isaac “Aka-san” Lew announced his departure from Digital Manga Inc., and in returning from Japan, Isaac founded Intermixi.com. An interchange of musical mixes, Intermixi Radio can be heard live weekly on 99.3 KCLAFM and can even be downloaded as a podcast. After Pop Japan Travel’s abrupt in hitatus in March of 2007, Isaac was asked by fans and friends alike, to create another tour program supplying the needs that have been forgotten by other tour companies. It was that ideal and notable reputation that lead Isaac Lew to meet Jane Fong and her G.I. Jane crew. Understanding each other very well, Isaac agreed to join Jane and her mission representing the USA branch of Akibanana. |
