CONF. Finals results are in:

Posted by Akasan On June - 30 - 2009

After recording breaking votes from an unseen amount of fan support online, the final votes have been counted and here are your results for the respective conference finals:

WOMEN CONFERENCE FINALS:

After a photo finish match with Amuro Namie, Koda Kumi the “Kogal girl from the Kansai” arrived into a battle with powerhouse Utada Hikaru (whom easily defeated all previous challenges). As the masses assumed Utada Hikaru would pull a repeat victory early on, it appears subtle Kumi support fansites were determined to pull the “Honey Flash” upset.

Late in the match Kumi’s votes exploded in numbers, taking the lead and never looking back…

Koda Kumi is your 1st ever Yellow Fever Women’s Conference Champion.

MEN CONFERENCE FINALS:

Sure to be talked about for quite some time, Kenichi Matsuyama was never meant to win anything here.

Taking an 8th seed ranking, Kenichi and his “Matsuyama Love” support sites, showed everyone there’s a new player in town. After making headlines from previous matches, Gackt proved to be the most challenging match for Kenichi with a fan support to rival his own. This would prove to be the most important factor as each man’s votes actually grossed more than the women’s conf. match votes combined!

Votes in the double digits for both sides were still pouring in as the clock hit midnight last night. As it did, the dust had settled and that little underdog Kenichi Matsuyama was victorious.

Kenichi Matsuyama is your 1st ever Yellow Fever Men’s Conference Champion.

But the battle is not over…

This Wednesday both champions will compete head to head in the final match for the 1st ever Yellow Fever Award.

Till then…

CONF. FINALS: Tale of the tape

Posted by Akasan On June - 26 - 2009

Polls close this Sunday at midnight… choose wisely.

TALE OF THE TAPE

Utada Hikaru Utada (宇多田 ヒカル Utada Hikaru), better known by her stage name Utada (English pronunciation: /ˈuːtədə/) in America and Europe, and also known by her fans as Hikki (ヒッキー Hikkī?), is a Japanese American singer-songwriter, arranger, and record producer.

Before her major debut with her album First Love (1999), she sold several records with mediocre success. After First Love’s release, which went on to become the best-selling album in Oricon’s recent history,[1][2] Utada would go on to have three of her Japanese studio albums rank in Top 10 best-selling albums ever in Japan (#1, #4, #8) and an overall six of her albums, two English-language and one compilation, thus far in her career charting within the 275 Best-Selling Japanese albums list.[3][4]

Utada currently has 12 number-one singles to date on the Oricon Singles chart, with two notable record achievements for a female solo or group artist: 5 of them being million-sellers and 4 placing in the Top 100 All-Time Best-selling Singles.[5][6] For her achievements, she was described by Time Magazine in 2001 as a “Diva On Campus,” while attending Columbia University for a brief, career-break semester in 2001.[7][8] In 2003, Utada was ranked #24 in the survey of Top 100 Japanese Pop Artists of All Time by HMV,[9] and #10 in HMV’s Top 30 Best Japanese Singers of All Time in 2006.[10]

Additionally, Utada is also credited for two theme song contributions to Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts video game series: “Simple and Clean[11] and “Sanctuary“.[12] In 2007, her single “Flavor of Life” reached #2 in worldwide digital download yearly single chart with over 7.2 million downloads,[13] and contributes to 12 million digital sales for her over the same year.[14]

Kumiko Koda (神田 來未子 Koda Kumiko?) (born November 13, 1982), better known by her stage name Kumi Koda (倖田 來未 Koda Kumi?), is a Japanese singer and songwriter from Kyoto, known for her Urban and R&B songs. Having debuted in 2000 with the single “Take Back“, Koda gained fame for her seventh single, “Real Emotion / 1000 no Kotoba“, the songs of which were used as themes for the video game Final Fantasy X-2.[1][2] Her popularity grew with the release of her fourth studio album Secret (2005), her sixteenth single “Butterfly” (2005), and her first greatest hits album Best: First Things (2005), reaching the number-three, number-two and number-one spot respectively.[3][4][5]

Though her early releases presented a conservative, quiet image, since as early as 2003 Koda has adopted a sexier and more provocative style.[6] Because of this image, she has become a fashion leader among young women, setting trends such as the ero-kakkoii style.[7] She has also won many fashion awards such as, the “Best Jeanist Award” and the title of “Nail Queen” three times since 2006. Since the rise in her popularity, Koda has lent her face and songs to many advertisements. In 2006 and 2007, Oricon awarded with Koda the title of best-selling artist.[fn 1]

On January 31, 2008, a day after the release of her sixth studio album, Kingdom, Koda became the center of controversy when she made a comment on Japanese radio show, All Night Nippon.

MICHAEL JACKSON: 1958-2009

Posted by Akasan On June - 25 - 2009

The staff and customers of Intermixi can not express in words how this day we knew would finally come, feels at this moment. Within our business of travel and international communication, music has always been a common bond and well as icebreaker.

There are countless times I can think of that MJ has become part of a truely unique bonding experience between my customers and Japanese people. From the time that school teacher Laura brought the house down in Shibuya with her karaoke rendetion of “Don’t stop till you get enough” to the customer turned famous film director guzzling down a beer can in Ueno park with myself and a Japanese crew in full fledged Power Ranger costumes. (To spin around once and scream “HOOOOOO”…)

Regardless if MJ knew we were alive or even existed, we loved him as he changed so many of our lives. Sorta like that extra family member that you didn’t see everyday, but when you did you never forgot the experiences.

Thanks for being part of our life Mike… back then… now and forever.
